The task: to lower a wooden stick to the ground.
The trick: each person can only use one index finger that must be touching the stick at all times.
It might seem easy enough, but the stick's seemingly magical floating in mid-air proves that the Helium stick is a difficult team-building activity deserving of its name. Though we weren't able to successfully bring the stick to the ground without cheating at our September meeting, we hope to revisit the activity later in the year and see how our teamwork has progressed.
After the Helium Stick Activity, we heard speeches from all those running for leadership positions on the Council this year. Kudos to all those who had the courage to give a speech. And congratulations to Melanie and Chris for being elected to serve on the Leadership Council!
We also heard from John Councelman, a representative of CMS, who talked about how we can become more involved in the anti-bullying scene in Mecklenburg Schools. We discussed attending an anti-bullying Summit in late October as either participants or volunteers. After designing a Beyond Bullying Week last year at South Mecklenburg High School, we have decided to continue engaging in the fight against bullying in our area, and hopefully, Mr. Councelman can help us find opportunities to help.
