This month, the Youth Council received an invitation to attend an Engage Summit around the subject of teen dating violence. The purpose of the Summit was "to bring awareness to the issue of teen dating and offer resources to teens that they may be faced with violence."
Youth Council Member Patricia Thompson attended the event, and here is what she had to say about it:
The one point made that really stood out during the Teens Against Dating Violence summit was that in bullying as well domestic violence, having confidence and security in yourself and what you believe in will help you handle the abuse, whether it's mental, emotional, verbal, sexual, digital or physical abuse. Recognizing the abusive or unhealthy relationship and knowing the right way and the wrong way to handle it is key to a safe and healthy life with many positive relationships.
Two quotes I heard said a lot throughout the summit was, "love does not hurt" and "love is not having fear, love is fairness, equality and respect."
I would like to thank Jason and Meck Min for giving me the opportunity to attend the Teens Against Dating Violence Summit, and I would also like to thank the people that were in charge of the summit.
The Summit was presented by Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools and the US Attorney's Office for the Western District, and it was sponsored by The Speedway Club at Charlotte Motor Speedway and Moore & Van Allen Law Firm.
