Interfaith Youth Council
The Mecklenburg Ministries Interfaith Youth Council is composed of a group of high school students from the Mecklenburg County area that reflect the religious, socioeconomic, geographic, and cultural diversity in and around Charlotte. We meet monthly from August to June to discuss Hot Topics such as politics and prejudice and hear a range of perspectives, plan community-wide events, volunteer doing service work, and bond not only as a council but as a group of friends.
Representing a variety of backgrounds, we work together to address issues affecting all of us. Below is a list of a few of our past projects and accomplishments from the Mecklenburg Ministries website:
"Mecklenburg Ministries’ Youth Leadership Council has…
• Joined in a Cardboard Campout in solidarity with homeless neighbors
• Created an anti-bullying curriculum for use in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools
• Participated in the Homeless Awareness Walk
• Piloted “Teen Dialogues” for the RACE exhibit at Discovery Place
• Helped lead the interfaith Thanksgiving Service for 1,600 people
• Spoke for “Conversation at the Crossroads” about building trust across differences
• Planned a conversation for youth from across the city with front page Charlotte Observer coverage"

As we have done in the past, we hope to continue serving the community and engaging in meaningful discussions this year.
